Save The Economy: Slash Senators' Salaries!

The country is 14 trillion in debt. Democrats don’t want to cut spending. Republicans don’t want to raise taxes. How can we possibly get out of debt?

Here’s a simple solution from someone on Reddit: pay senators the median salary in America!
The median US income is $49,445 per year according to the 2012 census.

The salary for congress is $174,000 per year.

If we paid senators the median salary in America, we could save $12,455,500 a year. If we paid all of Congress that much, we could save $66,636,925. Of course, the senate wouldn't vote for that.
In other news, Ron Paul has proposed reducing his presidential salary to $39,336 – the median salary of an American worker. (Yet another reason why I love this man!)
