Pony Saturday: Family Appreciation Day

Welcome to the return of Pony Saturday, everypony! Sorry I didn't review Hearth Warming Eve due to my somewhat hiatus, but I'll get to that next week, along with its new episode. This week, I share my thoughts on the newest episode "Family Appreciation Day."

• Not only does Granny Smith get more screen time and lines in this season, she gets her own episode! :D
• Is it just me, or is Granny Smith at times incomprehensible? (“That’s what I said!")
• This is one of the few episodes (actually, I think only) where none of the other Mane 6 appear.
• I know Big MacIntosh rarely speaks other than for “eeyup!”, but did “Applebuck Season” really have to be the only episode where he speaks more than that?
• That looks more like a rake than a broom.
• Is it mean to suggest that Granny Smith may have Alzheimer’s? She does keep forgetting stuff. (I’ll simply go with eccentric.)
• Diamond Tiara’s father is Filthy Rich. (He prefers to be called “Rich,” not “Filthy.”)
• Methinks Diamond Tiara no likey Zap Apple Jam.
• Funny how Apple Bloom didn’t have a problem with Granny Smith’s “silly ways” until Diamond Tiara came along.
• Is that Lily selling pots and pans?
• Apple Bloom has to carry Granny Smith’s gums—in her mouth! Bleh!
• LOL! at Granny Smith’s bee beard!
• And Apple Bloom is small enough to fit behind a beehive.
• “Are those fillies your friends?” HELL NO!
• “Half Pint” is officially the new “Blank Flank”
• I know this is a nitpick (like most everything else), but where are Snips and Snails in Apple Bloom’s class? It’s been shown in past episodes that they are part of her class. So where are they? Sick? Playing hooky? (Knowing them, I’ll go with the latter.)
• Somehow, I just like Sweetie Belle’s expression when she wakes up. XD
• Why weren’t Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle on the list for Family Appreciation Day?
• Also, why is Monday also considered “Family Appreciation Day?” Is it a weekly thing? If not, why not call it “Family Appreciation Week?”
• Third Sign: Ominous circle of crows.
• Did the treehouse recently add a lookout tower, or did I just not notice it until now?
• Scootaloo has an idea: hits lamp when she leaps. Nice visual pun!
• Does Granny Smith’s eccentricity remind anyone else of Arnold’s grandma from “Hey Arnold”?
• New Meme Alert: “Court Marshaled!”
• Nothing beats a medical degree with diagnosing illness than being a mother (o
or in Apple Bloom’s case, grandmother).
• Perhaps it would be better to pick apples when Big Mac and Apple Jack aren’t in the background.
• Zap apple tree uses Thundershock. It’s super effective!
• You have to wonder why ponies would need pigs? Cows I understand, since they give milk. But pigs? Do they eat bacon and other pork products. I thought ponies were vegetarian.
• Either the glass in the window was so thick that Cheerilee couldn’t see that Granny Smith was obviously being manipulated with ropes and was wearing fake glasses (which fell off, and required Apple Bloom to put back on), or she’s one stupid Smith.
• “She never wakes up from her nap!”
• Do the Zap Apples remind anyone else of Rainbow Dash?
• And Granny Smith doesn’t realize the telegram deliverer is Scootaloo? (Better question: Who sends telegrams anymore?)
• HA! Granny Smith said it! “My Little Ponies!”
• Apple Struddel gives noogies! (Just like another famous cartoon uncle!)
• Granny Smith looks cute as a filly. Reminds me of Pollyanna.
• You know, this episode really raises the question of just how old Princess Celestia is. She’s obviously older than a thousand, as the first episode implies. But just how long do alicorns live? Or are they immortal? ( But that just raises even more questions.)
• LOL! Granny Smith’s mother gets jealous of her father kissing Celestia’s hooves (and thus a thousand fanfics were born).
• Timber Wolves. Man do I love Equestrian mythology!
• I really love how everything crazy thing Granny Smith did in this episode had a reason for it (I.e.: you have to be “friendly” with the bees for them to make the best honey).
• Strangely enough, there is such a thing as Apple Jam (though not Zap Apples, unfortunately).
• Apple Bloom’s family first helped out Diamond Tiara’s. Oh, the bitter irony!
• The Apple Family founded Ponyville. Huh! Go figure.
• LOL! Silver Spoon (Diamond Tiara’s friend) is the first to applaud.
• Why did Granny Smith lick the chalkboard?
• Anyone else think Apple Bloom may one day get her cutie mark as a Zap Apple?
• You know, they never did explain why they hop over the water singing the alphabet.
• LOL! Diamond Tiara is forced to dress as a bunny and sing to the water. I just love when the bad guy gets their comeuppance! XD
• This has to be the first episode where no one writes a letter to Princess Celestia (or at least addresses her with the lesson they learned).
