Is the sideshow a past relic? According to Oancitizen in his recent review, it's still alive in reality shows like Honey Boo Boo.
And this is why I don't care for Honey Boo Boo. It's not so much that it's another cheesy reality show, but that it's a show designed to denigrate and dehumanize a young girl and her family for the sake of a few cheap laughs.
At least when comedians like Jeff Foxworthy make fun of the redneck stereotype, it's through self-deprecating humor. It's funny because they're making fun of themselves. This is just making fun of people for existing. That's just mean.
Seriously? Is this what entertainment has come to: belittling people who are less fortunate than us?
