Here's yet another obscure 1950s horror comic featured in The Horror! The Horror!: Comic Books the Government Didn't Want You to Read!
This cautionary tale, "Dungeon of Doom", warns of monsters that roam among us unnoticed, and whose presence can be detected by simply bumping heads. As this comic deals with the trope of secret enemies amoung us, you can tell it was written during the height of the Red Scare.
What I find funny about this comic is how the monsters dispose of those who discover their secret. Rather than off people by stabbing them or eating them, these monsters opt for something more convoluted like melting their flesh in giant microwave tubes.
What's even funnier is that these flesh-melting rays can be emitted either by something as large as a metal tube or as small as a ring, which begs the question as to why they don't simply use the ring?
Never question the science of 1950s science-fiction.
