2 Days Until Star Wars
The newest addition to the Star Wars franchise premieres in theaters on Dec. 18. To celebrate, I’m counting down all the days until the new movie premieres by sharing Star Wars-related content.
The puppet characters for the original movies, which included Yoda, were created by Jim Henson’s Creature Workshop. As such, many of the Star Wars characters have crossed over into Jim Henson’s other creations:
Around the same year that Star Wars premiered, R2D2 and C3PO made cameo appearances on Sesame Street. You can watch raw footage of the episode here, but Sesame Street has recently released higher-quality clips from that episode onto their YouTube channel:
Also recently, Sesame Street created a Star Wars parody, Star S’Mores, with Cookie Monster as Flan Solo, with his cookie sidekick, Chewie, which he struggles to not eat. Grover also appears as a parody of Yoda, which is especially interesting as Frank Oz has played both Grover and Yoda.
Around the time of Star Wars original premiere, the Star Wars characters also guest starred on the Muppet Show. In the more famous sketch of that episode, Luke Skywalker guest stars on the skit, "Pigs in Space", while averting the romantic approaches of Miss Piggy:
But perhaps my favorite part of the episode is the ending musical number, which includes Mark Hamill, interestingly enough, tap dancing to “When You Wish Upon A Star.” (Ironically enough, nearly 30 years later, Disney owns both the Muppets and Star Wars!)
