Fan Art Friday, Vol. 3

For this volume, I’m maintaining a one track mind by focusing on a single franchise—or rather, a crossover of two.

I’ve been a Pokémon fan for quite some time, and recently, I’ve started reading/watching Game of Thrones (though I’m still currently on Book/Season 1). So I’ve recently started wondering what Pokémon the different GoT characters would have if they were Pokémon trainers. AWildSketchAppeared on Imgur seems to have a good idea of just that:

Of course Daenerys Targaryen would become the "Mother of Dragon Pokemon", but I'd figure she would have a better variety other than having three Salamences.

Who’d Vote 4 Frothy Bottom?!?

Rick “Frothy Bottom” Santorum recently announce his run for president. Who’d be crazy enough to vote for him? Really crazy people, that’s who!

How crazy? Listen to one of his supporters right here screech about how Obama is a “communist Muslim dictator” who tried to nuke Charleston. Yes, you heard that right: these nutters actually believe that Obama tried to nuke Charleston.

I’d have you listen to the entire rant, but to make it all the more palatable for you to sit though, I’m also providing snarky commentary from the Drunken Peasants. Stomach it as much as you can:

Are Feminist SJWs A "Hate Group"?

When a group of 300 GamerGate supporters decided to peacefully gather at  Washington D.C. one evening, a bomb threat was called into the bar at which they were meeting. Shane Killian and Tim Dyson of the Bogosity Podcast discuss the details.

Hardly an isolated incident, this is one out of many instances of violence and intimidation carried out by so-called "feminists" and "social justice warriors." Is it about time that we start labeling these people as a "hate group"?

Something To Make You Really Think This Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day, the day when we recognize the lives that have fallen on our behalf. Most other right-leaning bloggers are busy sharing music videos of country artists singing mealy-mouthed ballads, whining about how “freedom isn’t free.” Others are posting uber-patriotic memes crammed with flags, bald eagles, kneeling soldiers, yellow ribbons, apple pie, and every other symbol of pure American exceptionalism to show how much they “heart” America. Me? I’ve decided to post something a bit more meaningful—and ironically enough, it involves cartoon ponies!

Pony Recap: Make New Friends But Keep Discord

It’s hard to hate an episode that has Discord in it. Even if the episode’s plot has already been done for the umpteenth time, simply adding Discord to the mix makes it one of the best episodes yet. Yes, we’ve already been through this song and dance where a character becomes jealous when a close friend of theirs starts hanging out with a new friend—but everything else within this episode attributed to our favorite draconeques—from the video game reference, to the return of Maud Pie, to the inclusion of a Gen 1 character (The Smooze), and even the new hippie tree hugger character (who is so aptly-named)—more than makes up for the cliché as dirt storyline. If you didn’t at least snicker once, even at Discord’s failed comedy, then you are in sore need of a funny bone transplant.

Anyway, here are the remainder of my thoughts on this episode:

Daily Pony: A Nice Place

"Whoa, dude, what is that?" That, my dear Tree Hugger, is a hell hole so frighteningly nightmarish, it can only exist in another dimension!

Feminism Done Right: #GirlsWithToys

A major gripe I have with modern feminism is that its approach towards achieving “equality” seems to be less about lifting women up and more about tearing men down, as if feminists feel the only way to “empower” women is to disempower men. As such, it’s rather uplifting for me to see women taking a much more positive approach towards female empowerment rather than through the typical male-bashing. Case in point: #GirlsWithToys.

Why Can’t More Drones Be Used For This?

When we talk about aerial drones, we often talk about the military type that are used to kill innocent civilians in the Middle East (and sometimes, they’re even American citizens). But drones aren’t just used for killing. Because of their unique flying abilities and technological capacities, they have the opportunity to take aerial photographs that most other aircraft are unable to replicate, and the end result is some of the most breathtaking aerial photography you’ll ever see.

Throwback Thursday: Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill!

With the recent news that Bill Nye The Science Guy will be streaming on Netflix, how could I not feature this for Throwback Thursday?

Growing up in the 90s, Bill Nye and Magic School Bus taught me more about science than any science class of mine ever had. Both shows did an excellent job of combining education with entertainment, and it's only fortunate for children today that both shows are currently streaming on Netflix (with Magic School Bus receiving its own CGI reboot). Too bad there aren't any modern kickass shows making science fun--unless you count Sid The Science Kid.

VGM Monday: Super Mario 64 Water Theme

Most Mario music is very upbeat and fast paced, which is all the better to keep your adrenaline pumping with excitement and keep you playing the game. The water theme from Super Mario 64, on the other hand, is the exact opposite—and yet, it fits the game and its water levels so well:

"Serene" is the best word to describe this music. It sounds and feels like the music you would hear in a candlelit spa while you’re soaking in a bubble bath with a green algae mask with cucumbers on your eyes, the type of music that helps you relax after a long, gruelling day of work. And indeed, the water levels, set to this music, are extremely relaxing to play—that is, until you come across that nightmare-fuel inducing eel! (Oh, and you start losing breath and drown!)

Daily Stevie: Gem War

On the one hand, the pilot episode isn't canon; on the other hand, from what we can see in the gems' regenerations, these forms of theirs are. Either way, this is an excellent war pic.

Need a good laugh? We all do. So here's your weekly compilation of political cartoons. Last week saw volumes of sheer stupidity from two presidential candidates: one being a Wall Street-owned corporate hack who voted for and supported the Iraq War, and the other being Jeb Bush. Also, there was much ado of trains, drones, and automobiles. (Okay, not so much automobiles.)

Shameless Plug Saturday: BrendanielReads

Do the insipid posts on Tumblr and 4Chan make you cringe? What if they were read to you by a man whose voice could melt butter? They'd still be insipid, but they'd be less cringeworthy. With the warm voice of BrendanielReads, anything sounds good—even a corny catchphrase like "Ducks Rock!" (Well, okay, not even the combined voice acting of Tim Curry and Tony Jay could make that sound good.)

Fan Art Friday, Vol. 2

Welcome back to another installment of Fan Art Friday, where I showcase fan art of other franchises that I follow that aren't MLP:FiM or Steven Universe. Let's skip the formal intro and move on right into the fan art:

I’m slightly cheating with this, since this was on the DA front page, but it’s still a cool piece of fan art. Here we see the four Sailor Scouts enveloped in their own chosen element: Sailor Mercury with water, Mars with fire, Jupiter with electricity, and Venus with…er, heart—but not the lame “heart” power that Ma-ti has! Either way, when their powers combine, they call…Sailor Moon! (What? Did you expect me to say Captain Planet? I already made a reference to that show with Ma-ti. What more do you want from me?)

SU Recap: Reformed

Well, it looks like the regeneration cycle has come full circle. First, it was Pearl. Then, it was Garnet. Now, it’s Amethyst with her new form—though, admittedly, not one that I care for! (But wait, does this mean Steven will have his own regeneration? Can human-gem hybrids even do that? We’ll have to wait and see.)

But that’s not the only development that we get to see from Amethyst. We also see some character development from her. We know from past episodes that Amethyst suppresses anxieties she feels about others, especially with her “less than positive” origins. Here, those anxieties really seep through to the surface, and we see that, despite her “couldn’t give two bucks” demeanor, she does really care about what others think about her. Not exactly the most memorable episodes, in my opinion, but a very revealing one nonetheless.

But seriously, I do not care for her new outfit. All-black is not her style!

With that out of the way, here are my thoughts on the episode (though since SU Wiki doesn't have a complete gallery, I can only post screenshots when I can):

We here at the Daily Bungle wish to provide a public service by testing our readers to see how well they can differentiate fake news from real news. Four of the following stories are fake, but one is real. Can you tell the real news from the satire?

SATIRE: Rape Victim Triggered By Transgender Woman In Gym Locker Room

Rape Victim Triggered By Transgender Woman In Gym Locker Room

The presence of a naked transgender woman in a locker room caused a former rape victim to experience horrific flashbacks of her past trauma.

Tim Russet Potato
Daily Bungle

Planet Fitness prides itself in offering a “judgement-free zone” where all of its members can feel comfortable, but one local gym faces a dilemma in ensuring that two members feel comfortable, even though the presence of one make the other feel uncomfortable.

A local gym received complaint from a female member, and former rape victim, concerning a transgender woman using the women’s locker room.

The woman who made the complaint (and who declined to provide her name), was a former rape victim who claimed that the transgender woman’s presence in the dressing area made her feel uncomfortable due to her past rape experience.

Planet Fitness offers a "no-judgment" policy which allows members to use whichever locker room best associates with their “gender identity”, which means that members who are biologically male are allowed to use the women’s locker room if they identify as female.

Earlier this year, a Michigan gym expelled a female member after she complained (in an “inappropriate” manner) about a transgender women using the women’s locker room.

However, in the case of this local incident, the gym did not and would not consider revoking the membership of the complaining female member, as they sympathize with her concerns and situation, one gym representative said.

The gym has not yet decided what it would do to facilitate either or both gym members, but has assured that they plan on reaching a compromise.

Dear UK, Can We Please Trade Leaders?

Dear Brits,

We hear that you don’t like your new (or rather, old) Prime Minister (even though you all voted for him in the first place). Apparently, you don’t like the fact that he wants to cut government spending and get rid of government-run healthcare. We Americans don’t understand why those are bad things. We actually seem them as pluses for our leaders.

If you don’t want your elected leader, can we have him instead? The one we have has increased our national debt by 70 percent through his reckless “stimulus” spending (which failed to stimulate our economy), and his healthcare “reform” have seen people’s healthcare premiums rise at best and their healthcare plans disappear at worst.

So how about we make a trade? We take David Cameron and the Tory Party off of your hands in exchange for Barack Obama and the remaining Democrats? Sound like a good deal to you lot?

Sincerely,

America

Shameless Plug Saturday: Cartoon Watchers

Normally, I won’t feature anything on Shameless Plug Saturday that I’ve only come across the day before, but in this case, I’m going to make an exception. I recently came across this YouTube channel yesterday, and I felt like sharing it, especially since one of their videos is extremely fitting for this time of year.

This week, I’m shamelessly plugging the Cartoon Watchers. The title pretty much tells you everything you need to know about them. They’re reviewers who watch cartoons. And that’s about it, really.

Fan Art Friday: Vol. 1

Welcome to a new regular feature I’d like to call Fan Art Friday. This is when I share some fan art that isn’t related to My Little Pony or Steven Universe. This is essentially going to be a hodge-podge of various interests of mine rolled up into one. Without further ado, let’s get started:

Considering how long it takes to create artwork of this scale, especially with chalk, and especially considering all of the other environmental factors such as people walking by, I have to admire this sidewalk drawing of Jake and Lady Rainacorn from Adventure Time. Very impressive.

A very cute pic of Zuko and Jin in modern times promoting boba tea at the Jasmine Dragon. Aw, don't be so sour, Zuko! You can be really bad ass when you're acting like a dragon--or perhaps I'm thinking of your voice actor. Dragon up!

Behold the three triangle heads: the Illuminati Dorito, Space Gem Dorito, and Homestruck Dorito. Great! Now I'm craving Doritos!

May Fourth may be reserved for Star Wars, but we can't forget other notable fours like the Elite Four here. If you don't know who these four are or where they're from, then I advise you to watch the Cartoon Hero's latest review.

Recently, I started reading Game of Thrones (only because I can't watch it, on television or on-line), and i have to say, I'm really hooked on it. This is a comic of Jon Snow and his direwolf, Ghost. You'll have to read the books or watch the show to get the context, but when you do, you'll find it hilarious.

NSA Mass Metadata Collection Ruled Illegal

The past week has reassured me that, even though the moral arc of the universe is long, it inevitably bends toward justice. First, the Baltimore cops who killed Freddie Gray were charged for their brutality, and now, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that the NSA’s mass metadata collection is illegal. It took one whistleblower being run out of the country to get this far, but we’re one step closer toward potentially rolling back mass surveillance.

Speaking of Edward Snowden, if you didn’t catch his interview with John Oliver, the infamously epic “dick pic” and “hot pocket” interview is below:

AVENGERS: Age of Political Correctness

Considering the recent feminist backlash against Joss Whedon, one has to wonder what would happen if the feminist SJWs had their way with the Avengers movies. Steven Crowder seems to have a good idea of that:

SATIRE: Male-Only Safe Spaces Provided At Feminist Speech

Safe Spaces Provided For Male Students At Feminist College Speech

Male college students feel “triggered” by feminist speaker, retreat to “safe spaces” with free beer and pornography.

Katie Incorrect
Daily Bungle

A recent speech by a controversial feminist professor caused male college students to retreat by the droves into male-only “safe spaces” created to safeguard them against any “triggering” and “problematic” comments.

Lodi Breequoes, dean emeritus of gender studies at Farnsworth University (FU), recently gave a speech entitled “Men: What Are They Good For? Absolutely Nothing!” in which she claimed that all men were “potential rapists” indoctrinated by their “patriarchal society” to “hate” and “oppress” women.

While her audience that evening started with a healthy balance of students from both genders, nearly halfway through her speech, most male, and a few female, students had left.

Male “men’s rights” student activists, prior to the event, has set up male-only “safe spaces” outside the auditorium where the speech was held, offering male students somewhere to retreat to if they felt “triggered” or “threatened” by the female professor’s opposing views.

These safe spaces were furnished with free beer, pizza, chicken wings, Playboy magazines, video games, and a large flatscreen television broadcasting the most recent sports game. At least two dozen male students congregated within these safe spaces during and after the speech.

Prior to the speech, male students had also placed “trigger warning” signs outside of the auditorium, warning students that the speech would contain “misandrist” language.

One photo posted on Twitter showed a male student holding up a sign reading “TRIGGER WARNING: anti-male bashing ahead” and advertising the location of the safe space.

As for the feminist speaker herself, Breequoes merely brushed of the backlash against her speech as a symptom of “male entitlement”, calling the male students “neo-reactionary chauvinists” who were shedding “male tears” over the loss of “white male privilege.”

“Everything that I said during my speech were merely the mainstream views held by modern feminists, and if a few immature boys get upset over it, then it’s only because of their unearned white straight cis-gendered male privilege,” Breequoes said.

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard how Joss Whedon, director for both Avengers movies, was chased off of Twitter by a horde of rabid feminist SJWs, lambasting him over the “misogyny” of his latest movie. If not, here’s MrRepzion with the details:

John Oliver Brings Out The Monkey On Standardized Tests

John Oliver did a hilarious comedic expose (as always) on standardized testing. I’m not sure what’s more cringe-worthy: that standardized tests and the education “reforms” that inspired them, from “Every Child Left Behind” to “Common Crap”, have failed to improve actual education, or the trying-too-hard-to-appear-hip-to-today’s-youth propaganda that students are forced to endure to prepare them for these tests:

Need a good laugh? We all do. So here's your weekly compilation of political cartoons. Sadly, there's nothing funny about a young man being killed by police by having his spine severed. However, there's everything funny about people protesting this act of police brutality by hurting themselves and their own city through violent riots. There's everything funny about police and their apologists decrying the violence of the riots while remaining silent about their own brand of state-approved violence. And there's certainly everything funny about an angry momma smacking sense into her rioting, looting son.

Daily Pony: Peter Parker Gets All The Mares!

I'm not sure who's bright idea it was to ship Twilight Sparkle with Peter Parker (Spiderman), or why these two character from two diametrically-opposing franchises would go well together. It makes as much sense as pairing peanut butter with kosher dill pickles. But darn if these two don't look adorkable together. I totes support this crack shipping! I ship them real hard.

I don't know. Maybe it's because these two are total geeks who manage to defy their total geekness by being badass heroes, what with Peter and his web-slinging and Twilight with her magic. Again, these two dorks are totes adorkable together.

Anyway, here's more fan art of this adorkably adorable, or adorably adorkable, shipping:

Shameless Plug Saturday: Bogosity Podcast

Welcome to a new weekly feature I’d like to call “Shameless Plug Saturday”, and it’s exactly what the name suggests. Each week, I’ll be featuring something new, whether it’s a deviantART gallery, YouTube channel, website, blog, or anything else that I want to share with you all. Sometimes, it’ll be something popular. Other times, it'll be something obscure. Either way, it’s always going to be something that's more than worth your attention.

This week, I'm going to be spotlighting a podcast that everyone who is skeptical and libertarian-minded should give a listen to, especially if they're like me and don't normally listen to podcasts. If there's one podcast you should be listening to in order to make sense of an otherwise senseless world, it should be the Bogosity Podcast.

Six Baltimore Officers Charged In Freddie Gray’s Death

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said that the moral arm of the universe is long but bends toward justice. The long arm has finally bent toward Baltimore, even if took nearly a week of the city burning to the ground for it to bend there.

Daily Pony: The Avengers Need These Heroes

Many Marvel fans were disappointed that neither Spiderman nor Wolverine appeared in the newest Avengers movie. So here's some fan art of the two, along with a few other familiar faces.
