Disney Sunday: Shanghai Disneyland Sneak Peek
Shanghai Disneyland, Disney’s newest theme park, is set to officially open within the next month on June 16. Until then, the park has been hosting a six-week trial run in order to test out the new attractions.
Since then, photos and video footage of the new park and its many attractions has leaked to the internet. What’s been revealed so far is nothing short of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
It’s quite apparent that Shanghai Disneyland has the most elaborate version of the Magic Kingdom, with the sheer amount of painstaking detail to the rides and the park itself unrivaled by any other park to date.
The new park makes gratuitous use of new technology to provide state-of-the-art attractions unique to the park (like the new Tron Lightcycle Power Run Coaster) as well as more high-tech versions of classic attractions (such as Pirates of the Caribbean).
The most intriguing ride, in my opinion, has to be the Tron Lightcycle Coaster, if for no other reason than it’s the only Disney attraction based upon the cult-classic Tron—which sadly probably won’t see any similar attractions here in America due to how poorly Tron: Legacy did in the box office, which is also why there won’t be a Tron 3.
Perhaps most impressive is the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Rather than simply being a transplant of the classic attraction from the American parks, this attraction is a completely new one, “Battle of the Sunken Treasure”, with a storyline based off of the live action movies and with plenty of high-tech special effects that simply surpass that of any other ride.
