Following my last two blog posts here and here, some of you have expressed shock—shock, I tell you!— that I, a political blogger, would have the audacity to criticize the president of the United States of America.
Seriously, if that comes across as the least bit surprising to you, then you clearly haven’t been following my blog for the past seven years.
I’m a libertarian. I’m against big government and other threats to individual liberty and fiscal responsibility. I was against big government under Obama, and I’m still against it under Trump.
Under Obama, I criticized war, torture practices, police brutality, mass surveillance, and crony capitalism. Under Trump, I’m still pretty much against all of that. Nothing has changed.
Literally the only thing that has changed has been the president. If I criticized Obama for overstepping his boundaries as president, why shouldn’t I do the same about Trump?
And believe me, Trump has more than overstep his boundaries. Within the past week alone, he has:
- Proposed a 20% tariff on Mexican imports to have Mexico “pay for the wall” (when, in reality, it will be Americans.)
- Approved the construction of pipelines that abuse eminent-domain.
- Threatened to place Chicago under martial law.
- And, as of recently, issued a refugee ban that has since wrecked chaos across the nation, leaving many people, including green card holders, stranded.
And it's only been a week. I shudder to think what the next four to eight years have in store—provided that we haven’t been wiped out by nuclear winter by then!
So, no, I’m not giving Trump a chance. He had his chance this past week, and he blew it. Even if he was doing mostly good things, I’d still criticize him over the bad because he deserves it.
You don’t like it? You only want to hear good things about Dear Leader? Then retreat to a safe space like Breitbart or Infowars. Because this is not going to be a Trump safe space any more than it was an Obama safe space or it would have been a Hillary safe space.
I don’t care if I hurt the fee-fees of Trump supporters. I’m more concerned about him hurting innocent people through his big government policies.
Because I’m a libertarian, damn it! That's what I do.
